Short sales are exercises in mental cruelty to one degree or another because of the total lack of certainty and logic. The asking price on a short sale many times has no realtionship to where it will end up, if it even ends up at all. The lender/investor may come back at some point down the line and accept the offer, counter back for a different sale price or just say no short sale. Normal thinking folks would ask why doesn't the lender/investor just decide what they would be willing to sell for prior to putting it on the market? Most folks I talk to think it is because they want to see what the market will offer for the home. As it is the system is a mess and buyers may or may not get the home they are looking to buy at a price near what they offered. And that answer could take many months to get. And the communication usually just plain sucks due to the listing agent not getting much information from the decision makers. Years from now people will look back on this concept of short sales and just ask "What the hell were they thinking?"
