Questions and Possible Answers
The latest issue of the National Association of Realtors magazine arrived in the mailbox last week. These guys need to wake up and smell the reduced costs by providing this content in digital form to the membership of this organization real soon. With iphone apps, ipad type devices etc, I get my information while on the run and I am sure I am not alone. An article entitled "3 Questions You Need to Help Buyers Answer" caught my eye. Here they are in no particular order:
1. If it is possible that prices will continue to fall, why should I buy now? The few dollars you may possibly realize by waiting to buy will be more than offset by the higher interest rates a buyer will pay. It is not the cost of the home - it is the cost of the money.
2. When will I begin to see appreciation if I buy now? NAR says: you will see 10% cumulative appreciation between now and 2015. My question would be what does it matter if your buying your home to live in, walk your kids to school from and raise your family in for more than 10 years? Homes need to be viewed as a place to live first and maybe 5th or 6th down the list as an investment.
3. Does buying really make more sense than renting? Yes. On a whole bunch of different levels.
A mortgage broker sent me his quarterly newsletter and I was shocked that all of the content was, well, worthless. Kathy and I had the "opportunity" to pay for 6 months of a glossy marketing piece called Aviano Lifestyle a few years back. Filled with pre-made articles on saving the earth and recipies for foods, we were able to put in our own content on one half of one column with there being 2 columns per page. Time is precious and no one reads things unless there is relevant content that touches the reader personally. Tangible media is on its last legs except for very specific uses. Just keep in mind the quality of the information you are provided with and work with those who provide the best content.
